In just a couple of days, our mission team will be hitting the road for the twenty hour drive to Matamoros, Mexico and we're excited!
I'm personally excited to see what God is going to do as we evangelize on the streets, pray with hurting people, preach at nightly meetings, and encourage and support a local church under the leadership of Pastor "Lalo" Castro. I am confident that if we believe for big things we will see God do big things in the lives of those we minister with and minister to!
I'm also excited because it was nine years ago that I was able to go on a two week long mission trip to Kota, India that changed my life and ministry. There I witnessed people living the Christian life not with a lot of perks and privileges but in absolute dependence on the goodness and provision of God. They faced opposition from the culture and still they found a wellspring of deep joy out of which emerged amazing Christian community.
We'd like to have an even greater encounter as we minister in Matamoros and come back charged up having seen the power of God change people's lives. Pray for our team for safety, for health, and for anointing as we minister and pray. Matamoros is home to significant poverty and brokenness. It is a "gateway" city between the United States and Mexico and as you've no doubt heard, it is a part of Mexico that has been greatly affected by drug-related violence.
But Jesus can make a difference in Matamoros and Pastor Lalo and his congregation are on the forefront of ministering life to children and families! We want to show our solidarity with his efforts to evangelize and build Christ's kingdom among the hurting and broken on the U.S./Mexico border.
